It’s hard to say ‘Happy’ Indigenous Day but I’ll say that today is a day to honour Indigenous people in Canada and to continue to work on decolonizing and reconciling our relationships. With humility, we acknowledge the relationship of all living things and with open hearts, we seek to grow in wisdom and respect. We are experiencing many challenges to be sure and have a way to go as allies seeking the way of healing, forgiveness and reconciliation. For my part, I believe it’s through education that this is realized. This week I’m taking a course on Indigenous Sustainability and Environmental Ethics at Vancouver School of Theology. During the summer I’m facilitating a book study about Thomas King’s The Inconvenient Indian at my parish.
